Mean Dean

Mean Dean By Megan Linke Dean Seams can be a rotten, mean oaf. Last year, he made fun of me a LOT. It seems Dean had one goal in life: to make me mad! One day, he ran up to me. “Beat it, bean!” he said. He pushed me. As a rule, I never hit back. But this time I was fed up, so I almost did. But then Mr. Koan ran up yelling, “NO HITTING!” Dean and I both got in big trouble. We had to sit inside at lunchtime. As we sat, a big bug came in the window. I could hear it buzz nearby. Well, Dean did not like bugs. He did not like bugs at all. When that bug came in, Dean had a fit! He got all upset. “A bee!” he yelled. “It is after me!” He fell off his seat. He fell in a big heap on the floor. “Quit moaning, Dean,” said Mr. Koan. “It’s not a bee. Get up.” Dean got up. His face was hot. His ears were red. ™ © Advanced Assessment Systems/LinkIt! Later, Dean came up to me. “If you talk about this,” he said, “I will beat you up!” But I had a better idea. “Let’s make a deal,” I said. “If you quit being so mean, I will not tell a soul!” It worked. After that, Dean did not hit me. He did not call me names. This year, Dean and I are almost pals. Almost. ™ © Advanced Assessment Systems/LinkIt! Passage provided under license from PassageBank.com.
